Bashundhara Kings showed their interest in hosting the AFC Cup (South Zone) in August in Sylhet as the defending Bangladesh Premier League champions today requested Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) to take the necessary steps in this regard.

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has already revealed the fixture of South Zone featuring ATK Mohun Bagan, Bashundhara Kings, Maziya Sports and Recreation and the winner of JSW Bengaluru/Eagles Club. The matches are scheduled to take place from August 12 to 24.

Bashundhara Kings is interested in hosting the AFC Cup (South) play-off and Group D along with Bangladesh Football Federation, said a letter submitted to the BFF today. In this regard, we request the BFF to complete the paperwork and submit the Expression of Interest to the AFC.

The matches of Group D were initially scheduled to be held in the Maldives in April but the Maldivian government withdrew themselves from hosting the AFC Cup citing the rise of coronavirus cases. The AFC also wanted to hold Group D matches in May but Kings appealed to defer it to August citing the conflicts of their domestic fixtures with the AFC Cup. AFC later deferred it by two months.
